What karat gold is best for necklace?

Gold with higher purity will be softer, less durable, more intense in color and will cost a higher price as well. Therefore, the gold karat should be selected keeping in mind the purpose for which it will be used. 24 karat gold is regarded as the purest form of gold. It contains 99.95 per cent of gold. Like 24 karat gold, 22 karat gold is also prestigious. It consists of 91.6 per cent of gold. 18 karat gold comes with a proportion of 75 per cent gold and 25 per cent of other metals. 24 karat gold is very soft and tends to scratch easily. Therefore, there are high chances that the jewellery would break. 22 karat gold is more durable than the former one due to the presence of metals which strengthen it for jewelry purposes.

It is recommended for making fine jewellery. 18 karat gold is harder in comparison to the higher karat numbers and is extensively used for making jewelry. Since a necklace is worn on special occasions, both 22 karat gold and 18 karat gold can be used in the making of it.
